Sound Off Sunday for this week starts with the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March. I remember participating in the first march, a young women inspired to be a part of a movement. I drove with two friends from Chicago to DC to be a part of that historic moment and it is shocking to see that 20 years later, while there has been some progress, we still have a long way to go. I am proud that the movement has not dissolved especially in this time and space where people need to be continually reminded that #BlackLivesMatter.
Today is the Chicago Marathon sponsored by Bank of America. Thousands of runners make there way through the city across over 20 neighborhoods. I happen to live a half block away from a part of the marathon route and it I can sit on my balcony and watch the runners make their way through this part of their journey. I want to wish of the runners success in completing this annual marathon.
October is the month where we acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness as well as Domestic Violence. For both women and men both of these issues require or attention. Women if you are over 40, or have a family history of Breast Cancer please schedule a mammogram today. Many places offer free same day mammogram screenings and results.
